Representation of businesses:

  • Representing a client before the European Court of Human Rights ("ECtHR") in a number of matters related to a multimillion-euro corporate dispute adjudicated in several jurisdictions. The case involves complex issues of protection of property and fair trial.
  • Advising a client on the choice of investment arbitration and/or international human rights protection mechanisms in a case on the protection of property.
  • Advising a client on the European Convention on Human Rights–related arguments in national court proceedings including preparing written submissions to the then Higher Commercial Court of the Russian Federation.
  • Representing a client before the ECtHR in connection with the violation by Russian courts of the applicant's right of access to court and the right to have a hearing by a tribunal established by law.
  • Advising, with a leading international law firm, on a matter concerning access to court in contract rescission proceedings.

Public law matters:

  • Representing clients before the ECtHR in a major case concerning the compatibility of Russian legislation on public assemblies with the relevant provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights (pro bono). The ongoing proceedings may potentially result in a pilot judgment, i.e. the ECtHR may recognise the systemic nature of the relevant human rights violations and require a wide range of general measures to be adopted by the State.
  • Advising an international non-governmental organisation on national implementation of Russia's public international law obligations.
  • Representing a client in Russian courts in a number of cases connected with challenging state agencies’ actions.
  • Advising an applicant, as co-representatives with a leading Russian human rights lawyer, on ECtHR Grand Chamber referral procedure in relation to the retroactive application of state secrecy laws.
  • Representing a client before the ECtHR in legal proceedings against the Estonian Government concerning European migration regulations.
  • Advising on a matter concerning freedom of expression in the course of a political debate.
  • Advising a former government official on a matter concerning a denial of the right to stand for parliamentary elections.

Representation of individuals:

  • Representing 18 clients before the ECtHR in a case concerning violations of bona fide buyers' rights resulting from unlawful privatisation of real estate.
  • Advising a client seeking compensation before national courts for the violation of the right to life on European Convention on Human Rights-related issues and representing the same client before the ECtHR.
  • Advising a client on the issues of currency control and the status of Russian non-residents.
  • Advising a client on the legal status of foreign nationals in Russia (pro bono).
  • Advising, with a team of Russian attorneys, on a matter against Germany involving an alleged rights violation against Russian nationals.
